A chilly May

Alexa and I were discussing the weather! Goodness! Rainstorms about all week and what she calls "dreary." I, as you might know, rather love that grey kind of day. Tonight is super stormy here in the heartland... It is half past midnight, laundry is spinning, and I am watching YouTube videos probably until dawn.

Earlier I made some Brussels sprouts for a salad. They are roasted with onions, celery, garlic, olive oil and red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, then chilled and added to fresh mushrooms with Parmesan, Italian dressing and a little Balsamic glaze. The house smells fabulous! --- which is odd because usually I am not a fan of cooking cabbage smells!

Today is "Curtain Day." ... I hope my little valances arrived from Amazon! I voted to stay in my nightgown (which is really a navy t-shirt long dress) all day. I have done that only 3 times since Christmas--- Valentine's, St, Patty's and I guess belated Mother's Day. Nobody would care or even know. Hey, it's actually an upgrade from my usual clothes. Boo. Amazon sent only one valance, Now I have to wait 9 days for the 2nd... So instead I will show you my summer valance in the bathroom.  I just skipped the bunny/spring one. We had snowmen until today! Well, we had snow flurries last week!

Let me tell you if you want a tablet, that 10" Kindle fire is great! Images are soooo sharp. I can take it in and follow tutorials right while I work.  I put the little Vicks jar in for size reference... Who am I kidding? I just had that there. I am one of "those" ladies!

I decided to begin washing dolls and doll clothes. My first attempt was this vinyl Shirley Temple. I talked to a doll expert (who is a dear friend who reads my blog!) about something to whiten fabrics. At the rate I am going, I need approximately 400 weeks to finish this job. I will be 7 years and 8 months older! Since I may never get out of the sheltering in place, I might as well do something, eh? They will say, "Boy, she had clean dolls!" ..... and my Mama will smile.

The photo of my dad the other day was during his illness so I thought I would show you the two I have tucked in my yarn and fairy armoire. I smile at him every trip through my bedroom as he shivers laughing under an afghan at his 50th Anniversary party at my other home. It was August 20, 2000. My air conditioner was pumping, and he ducked under that cover because he was kinda cold -natured. The other photo I have shown before of him stopping for "coffee" while he was feeding cattle... so he could see my son... He also scraped my icy windows and started my car for me to go to school, as I've said before... Life is kind of like that moment learning to ride that bicycle... Dad is there, balancing,  holding the whole operation upright, running behind, boosting... and voila! On our own... we may wobble; we may tip... but that little push we were given does not stop.

Have a good weekend. Stay safe!

Whimsy and Hugs!

Shirley looks like new! Love the pictures of your dad. I plan to stay in pjs Saturday and Sunday. My daughter in law went back to work and we are now homeschooling during the day. I went from weeks sitting in a chair nursing my arm to teaching common core math. I will say first grade is very challenging.

Such sweet pictures of your dad. I remember those Shirley Temple dolls! I guess they are worth quite a bit now, especially in such good condition. I love your window! The sill decorations, valance, etc. Now I want to see all your windows, especially the new valances.

You've been busy! That Brussels sprouts recipe sounds wonderful. That's one of the things I hated as a kid and discovered anew when I grew up. And now I love them!
