Waiting...

Tonight again the lovely sound of locusts at sundown... I love that song, their proclamation of Fall in the wings. Our night sky is pink for a while, presumably due to those devastating western fires.

Today we made another jar of pickled eggs.

These will be slightly spicy with jalapeƱos. We have planned to make beef jerky over the weekend. And

Crochet with cotton... not my favorite but I bought a ton to make dish cloths... I finally switched to my gramma's hook... and it helped.

Next week will be the Homecoming Festival in the town where I taught. We will be sitting this out... and I think my Fall decorating may be on the agenda.

Thanks to all of you who so faithfully read my blog! We got this!

My favorite is the gorgeous sky from your window. Are you really starting your fall decorating? I can't wait to do mine. I hope you post lots of photos. This looks like the Valerie Parr hill designer from Q.V.C.

The sky is so lovely, but the fires are so horrible and devastating.

Hello from the Heartland, Gayla! I think about FALL a lot, lately, though we've had very little "SUMMER" weather until the past few days. Something about seeing the colors of closing-in is becoming a welcome thought (though Caro and I have already been practically house-bound for the past two years). We have pale pinks everywhere upstairs, and the sitting room is especially Spring and Summer oriented, so this Fall decor will be not quite so leafy-lavish as in past years. We've past had leaves and grapes from the chandeliers and great swaths of golds and oranges draped about, but with the Pink Memory Tree permanent up in the sitting room, it sort of sets the tone for the entire room.

I do believe a few blankets and a pouf or two wouldn't go amiss, for cold feet, and a great big pot roast in the Insta to warm up dinnertime and make several put-aways for the freezer would be quite satisfying. Doors and windows open, soft sweet breeze, our own peep-frogs and locusts, with the raucous addition of five huge crows in the BIG tree out by the back door. I stepped out yesterday, and as I looked up, they just hung there, looking down curiously and answering a "caw" or two from me. Seems a gathering of Ravens, though they're not quite that large, just seem to have taken up housekeeping up there in the big old limbs.

I'm intrigued by the "MORNING VESPERS" picture just here to the right---the oxymoron and the evening-or-dawn-lit scene of the china is so interesting and lovely. Which post was that, and may I read it? Mine won't click.

Happy Almost Autumn to you, Sweet Friend, r
It's hard to believe that it's really time for fall decorating again, but I know it's true. I am ready if a bit wistful. I can't tell you how much I love cotton crochet dishcloths. They are all I will use. I bought my first few from a crafter on Amazon several years ago, but now both my sister and my daughter's mother-in-law keep me supplied with them. They're marvelous. I have never tried a pickled egg and I don't think I'm tempted, haaahaha! xoxo
