Looking Ahead

Today seemed just perfect for decorating for the Summer Patriotic Holidays. The skies were gloomy, and we were besieged with heavy rains and winds... My son was busy in his room all morning, so I just happily scooted around the tote of Red, White, and Blue, and officially said hello to the summer. This little bear was dressed by a good friend of Mom's, and she perches on an afghan I made for my dad many years ago. I used Heartland bulky yarn, and I love it except it has never stopped shedding on everything.

My son was most impressed with the flat spaces that appeared..  He loves space, and my style of living seems to inhabit every flat space in the house.

This is my mom's  childhood doll holding a photo of our American Princess, Shirley Temple. She sits in the corner of the kitchen right now and helps me cook and clean.

My mother and grandmothers made and quilted this during the Bicentennial.  I remember my gramma was never a fan of  buying fabric for a quilt.  She thought it should be made from scraps of worn or unloved clothing. However, my mama wanted this, and it is so cheerful to me right now.

I made this a few years ago. I almost forgot to get it out this month!

My dad would have loved this advertisement! He was such a patriot and also a telephone retiree and collector.

Main Street USA... I festooned a few banners together that came from good friends for my birthday. Think maybe Hobby Lobby???

My son is seven years old in this photo...  I love it!  I cannot believe he is going to be 40 his next birthday. I still see this little guy whenever we are laughing hilariously over something or other.

Have a wonderful week!

I love all your collectibles. And your home is warm and cosy. Popped in from Ginny’s blog just to say hi :) I enjoyed my visit very much.

That seven year old is just adorable!!! Love all your Americana. Praying for you and thinking of you often.
So homey and cozy and inviting ... the very best kind of house, full of memories and meaningful items. You are way ahead of me ... I must decorate for Memorial Day and the "patriotic summer months" as I call them. I particularly love your red-white-blue baking dish! Our Dagny has asked for a patriotic theme for her 7th birthday on Flag Day, June 14th! I'm happy she wants that because it's so easy to do! Your son's little-boy picture is precious. Have a great week, Gayla! xoxo

The nice thing about this time is that you can decorate and leave it up for a bit! I love your quilt -- and you just reminded me I need to put my red/white/blue quilt out!
